What is Carbon Steel Pipe
Carbon steel pipe is a cylindrical pipe, also called CS pipe, the main components are carbon and alloy. It is made of steel ingot or solid round steel by perforating into capillary tube, and then hot rolling and cold drawing. Carbon steel pipe has high strength, strong pressure resistance and good flexibility, and plays an important role in my country’s steel pipe industry.
Size
Approximately 1/2” NB to 36” NB.
Standard Manufacturing
Carbon steel pipes are manufactured according to a wide range of standards
Chinese Standards: GB/T 8163, GB 6479, GB/T 9711, GB 3087
European Standards: EN 10216-2, EN 10255
American Standards: ASTM A106 Gr.B, ASTM A53, ASME B36.10
Japanese Standards: JIS G3452, JIS G3456
Carbon Steel Pipe Type
Classification by carbon content
- Low carbon steel
Carbon content: 0.05%~0.30% (general standard ≤0.25%)
Low carbon steel is also called mild steel. In addition to carbon, it also contains alloying elements Mn (0.3%-0.9%), trace amounts of Si, P and S. Its elongation is ≥25%, its yield strength is in the range of 180~300MPa, and its Brinell hardness test hardness is in the range of 120-160HB. It is very suitable for forming and welding, and the price is reasonable. - Medium carbon steel
Carbon content: 0.25%~0.60%
Medium carbon steel is not only high in strength, but also has good flexibility and balanced performance. Its tensile strength can reach 500-850MPa through solid solution strengthening effect, and its elongation is between 15%-25%. - High carbon steel
Carbon content: 0.60%~1.0%
As the carbon content increases, the hardness and strength become higher, and the flexibility becomes worse. The hardness of high carbon steel is >55HRC, the tensile strength is >850MPa, and the elongation drops to <10%. - Ultra-high carbon steel:
Carbon content: 0.96%~2.1%
Ultra-high carbon steel is a special category with the highest strength but the worst flexibility.
Classification by process
- Hot-rolled carbon steel pipe
It is rolled and formed at a high temperature of 1100-1250℃, and the recrystallization softening characteristics of the steel billet are used to achieve large deformation processing. After raw material heating, rough rolling, fine rolling, cooling and other processes. The tensile strength of hot-rolled carbon steel pipe is 375-630MPa (Q235B); the yield strength is ≥245MPa (20# steel). After raw material heating, rough rolling, fine rolling, cooling and other processes. - Cold-rolled carbon steel pipe
Precision pipe made by raw material pretreatment, rolling, heat treatment and other processes at room temperature of 20-30 degrees. Its tensile strength is between 520-750MPa.
Classification by manufacturing type
- According to the manufacturing type, it can be divided into many categories, such as carbon steel seamless pipe, carbon steel ASTM A335 pipe, carbon steel ERW pipe, carbon steel straight seam submerged arc welded pipe, carbon steel ASTM A106 pipe, carbon steel ASTM A53 pipe, etc. We can also customize the carbon steel pipe you need.
Advantages of carbon steel pipes
- High strength, high ductility, high toughness, and low cost.
- High strength means that carbon steel pipes can be thinner and use less material, while still meeting large-capacity transportation requirements.
- Reduce material use and can be recycled, economical and environmentally friendly.
- Carbon steel pipes are very simple to manufacture and have a wide range of uses.
- Thickness and size can be adjusted and customized at will.
- It is very convenient to cut and bend, and can be used in various environments (small spaces, etc.).
- It is easy to connect with other accessories such as fittings and valves.
Application of Carbon Steel Pipe
- Oil and gas: Carbon steel pipes are the best material for transporting oil and gas, and play an important role in this field.
- Automotive field: used for exhaust pipes, chassis and other parts.
- Water supply and sewage system: used to deliver drinking water to every household. Because of its strong corrosion resistance, sewage can also be transported to sewage treatment plants.
- Construction engineering structure application: Because carbon steel pipes have good load-bearing capacity, they are used for structural foundation pillars such as buildings and bridges.
