What is Schedule 80 Pipe?
“Sch” is an indication method represented by ASME B36.10, indicating the specifications of steel pipes. Because most pipes are used to transport liquids and gases, the inner diameter of the pipe is very important. Schedule 80 does not indicate a specific pipe wall thickness, but a series of wall thicknesses. Schedule 80 is widely used in various industries and is in great demand. Schedule 80 also has additional strength and is heavier than Sch40.

Characteristics of Schedule 80 Pipe
High-pressure bearing capacity
Due to its thick-wall design, Schedule 80 can withstand high-pressure work and is suitable for high-pressure water pipes and chemical transportation.
Corrosion resistance
The pipe has excellent chemical corrosion resistance and can resist the erosion of various acids, alkalis and chemicals, making it suitable for the transportation of chemical fluids.
Temperature resistance
When the pipe is in use, it will produce temperature fluctuations under various influences. It is very important to maintain the pipe structure when the temperature changes. Sch80 can withstand extremely high or extremely low temperatures and can adapt to a very wide temperature range.
Low maintenance cost in the later stage
Although the initial investment purchase cost of Sch80 pipes is high, due to its high durability and no need for frequent replacement and maintenance, the later maintenance cost is extremely low.
Sch 40 vs Sch 80
Thickness: Thickness is the main physical difference between 40 and 80. The higher the grade, the thicker the material of the pipe and fittings.
Pressure: Wall thickness is one of the factors that directly affect the ability to withstand pressure. The higher the pipe number, the thicker the wall thickness, and the better its pressure bearing capacity.
Cost: Sch80 is thicker, so more material is required than Sch40, resulting in a slightly higher cost for Sch80.
Application: Sch40 is generally suitable for low-pressure environments, while Sch80 focuses more on medium and high-pressure environments.
